POJ PROGRAMS

GIVE. RECEIVE. GIVE. =JOY.

I

The Power of Joy is dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals to both give and receive joy. Our mission centers around fostering connections and encouraging service, which act as the foundations for building joyful experiences within our community.

Group Service

We organize service opportunities for groups to actively participate and make a positive impact within the surrounding communities. Approximately every six weeks, a group service project is scheduled, often paired with a social gathering to strengthen connections among participants. Past events have included preparing food at the Ronald McDonald House, cultivating a garden for an inner-city school, supporting Habitat for Humanity, and volunteering at the St. Augustine Community Cupboard.

Hiking Through Loss

This group offers a supportive space for individuals who have experienced the loss of a spouse or partner. Meeting monthly, members participate in hikes and social outings, providing comfort through shared experience. There is no expectation for anyone to speak about their loss; the group simply offers the reassurance of being among those who understand.

POJ Kids

The POJ Kids program serves youths ages 8-18 from Cleveland's underserved neighborhoods. Through Saturday Joy Outings, children experience activities ranging from nature excursions to attending shows at Playhouse Square. Coaches build meaningful relationships with participants, acting as consistent and caring adults in their lives.

Joy Projects

Each month projects are created and facilitated by Power of Joy to bring joy to individuals facing hardship. Power of Joy frequently collaborates with other nonprofits to develop these initiatives. Examples of past projects include writing notes to veterans accompanied by flowers for Veteran's Day, making floral centerpieces for cancer patients at special dinners, creating a Joy Retreat for staff at local social service organizations, and participating as drumming buddies in a drum circle with adults who have physical and intellectual disabilities.

Wellness Book Club

Members are invited to participate in book discussions focused on wellness topics. Some of the books explored include The Art of Being Alone, Say What You Mean: A Mindful Approach to Nonviolent Communication, The Let Them Theory, and Life in 5 Senses.

Women Connect

Women Connect is a quarterly gathering that combines social interaction with opportunities to learn about current service initiatives within Power of Joy or brainstorm new ideas for serving the community.

Joy Writers

Joy Writers is a group that uses the mode of handwritten notes to spread joy through encouragement, gratitude and connection. Over one thousand notes have been delivered to nursing home staff, elderly, those in isolation, veterans, widows, and more.
